We at UCA advocate connectivity and interoperability between our affilliated urgent care centers. The vision for our company is that patients be able to authorize the electronic transfer of their records of treatment recieved at any affiliated urgent care center to another UCA affiliate center. This is an ambitious undertaking and not easily accomplished in the broader medical market place.
At UCA, we believe that the urgent care sector is best adapted to accomplish this for the following reasons:
1. Urgent care operations are most adaptable to the deployment of electronic medical records (EMR).
2. EMR technology, if deployed properly, can facilitate greater efficiency in the urgent care envirnment
3. Urgent care centers generally utilize technology to deliver their services, including, medication dispensing, digital imaging, etc.
4. Patients frequenting urgent care are generally more mobile and find their way to multiple markets in their travels
These factors, combined with our extensive research of the urgent care sector suggest to us that patients, providers and payors would all benefit from having an efficient method of information exchange in the medical record administration process.
UCA limits the number of applications that it utilizes in the delivery of urgent care services and works with those application teams to facilitate interoperability of those products and the sharing of medical information upon the patient's request to do so. By limiting the number of applications that it supports, UCA is best positioned to facilitate the interoperability and data exchange that will fulfill this mission.
UCA generally provides this service in a hosted server environment, further enhancing our ability to facilitate the interchange.
There is no other service provider in the urgent care sector like UCA and our model is not easily replicated.
