UCA Expands Client Base

At the urging of clients, UCA has expanded its offering in the area of Managed Care Contract Management.  "We have a significant and growing deficit situation that urgent care operators are facing in the area of managed care contract procurement and management", says Tony Barber, UCA CEO. "In an effort to drive greater performance and consistency in the area of managed care contracting, UCA added the services of Shannon Yarrow, an experienced and successful managed care negotiator."

"UCA is currently working on behalf of several clients to either negotiate initial terms for start-up centers or to re-negotiate existing terms for those that are and have been open for some time", says Barber.

Since starting the service, the demand has been brisk.  To engage the services of UCA for this purpose, there is an engagement agreement, a brief survey document and, of course, a need to photocopy any existing agreements that are intended to be re-negotiated.  The process usually takes ninety days or more to complete.  "Many providers simply don't allow enough time to complete a successful contracting strategy and we work with them to make sure that they plan appropriately", says Barber.  "It is one of the most significant weaknesses of providers in managing their start up or their existing business.  It is very important to define your strengths and to communicate them effectively to payors in the process as well as to understand what the individual payors bring to the table.  There is a huge variation in the payment rates to providers of the same services and it is up to the providers to assure that they are paid commensurate with their skill and offerings."
