James A. “Tony” Barber

Mr. Barber founded and opened UCA for business in April, 2008. Prior to that he served as the Senior Vice President for Health Management Associates, Inc., (NYSE: HMA). In this position at HMA, Mr. Barber directed several differing corporate functions including, Physician Practice Management, Managed Care, Pharmacy Servcies and Physician Relations. Prior to serving in this corporate position, Mr. Barber served as a Hospital CEO for HMA and has over 16 years of experience in that role. In all, Mr. Barber worked with HMA for over 25 years. Additionally, Mr. Barber was the Vice President of Operations in a larger midwestern medical college/healthcare system. Mr. Barber has an extensive background in managing physician practices of varying sizes and physician relationships in multi-dimensional health systems. Mr. Barber is well connected to physicians in many markets around the United States. Other experience includes, the creation of a Risk Retention Group, development of a corporate-wide medical staff credentials program and the creation of a comprehensive CME and physician relations program designed to better connect hospitals with staff physicians.
